An ultrasound-guided breast biopsy is necessary for lesions in your breast classified as category 4 or 5 according to the BIRADS classification. The needle used for the biopsy is inserted into the mass under ultrasound guidance. The biopsy material, which can be performed with either a fine or a thick needle, is sent to the pathology laboratory for analysis.
Breast biopsy is a very simple, quick, and painless procedure in experienced hands. Complications are not expected. Patients can go home immediately after the biopsy. Pain is not expected, and prophylactic antibiotics are not required.
