Non-Surgical Treatment of Fibroadenoma (Breast Mass)

3 min read

Fibroadenomas are benign breast tumors that are frequently observed in young women, especially before menopause. Some women may have numerous fibroadenomas, a condition called fibroadenomatosis. They are usually monitored and do not require treatment. However, tumors that grow rapidly, cause pain, or cause palpable hardness are treated with surgery after a biopsy confirms the diagnosis of fibroadenoma.

Surgery for recurring fibroadenomas is frustrating for many young women. In addition to the risks of repeat surgery and anesthesia, the scars left on the breast skin are another source of stress for patients.

When are fibroadenomas treated?
Fibroadenomas are benign breast tumors that are frequently observed, especially in premenopausal young women. They are usually monitored and do not require treatment. However, tumors that grow rapidly, cause pain, or cause palpable hardness are treated.

How are fibroadenomas treated?
Fibroadenomas, which are traditionally indicated for treatment, are treated surgically. However, surgery for recurring fibroadenomas can be frustrating for many young women. In addition to the risks of repeat surgery and anesthesia, the scars left on the breast skin from the surgery are another stress factor for patients. With advancing technology, multifunctional needles have been developed. Fibroadenomas are now successfully treated with non-surgical treatments.

Can non-surgical treatment be applied to all fibroadenomas?
Yes, it is. With this new technique, all breast lumps up to 4 cm, especially fibroadenomas, can be treated in a painless, bloodless procedure lasting just a few minutes. The procedure can be performed in the time of an ultrasound, and our patient can get up immediately after the treatment and continue with their daily activities.

It requires no preparation. This method, which is more affordable than surgical treatments, has not yet become widely available in our country because it is performed by only a few interventional radiologists. This new treatment method is successfully applied in a small number of private clinics.

Fibroadenomas are very common benign breast masses in women. They are most common between the ages of 20 and 40. When first detected, they are followed closely at six-month intervals for up to two years. This follow-up is necessary to prevent malignant tumors that resemble fibroadenomas from being mistaken for fibroadenomas. If a fibroadenoma is rapidly growing, painful, or causing the patient complaints due to a palpable mass, it can be treated. A biopsy is essential to confirm the diagnosis before treating fibroadenomas.

The INTACT BLES method, a percutaneous excision method, allows for the removal of fibroadenomas up to 2-2.5 cm in one piece. The BLES method removes the mass in as little as 10 seconds. The needle puncture wound heals without leaving any scars. You can return to your daily life immediately after treatment.
