Mehmet Mahir Atasoy, who completed his primary and secondary education in Istanbul, was born in 1978. He graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine (Medicine in English) in 2001.
He completed his Radiology residency at Maltepe University Faculty of Medicine between 2002 and 2006. He had the opportunity to work with Prof. Dr. Levent Çelik, one of the country's leading breast radiologists, at the Maltepe University Department of Radiology. His thesis topic was "The Contribution of Breast MRI to Treatment Management in Patients with Breast Cancer."
He served as a Breast Radiologist at the Turkish Breast Foundation for approximately two years. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Turkish Breast Foundation, where he continues his social responsibility work.
He completed his one-year military service at Diyarbakır Military Hospital.
After his military service, he worked as a Radiologist at Dr. Siyami Ersek Hospital for two years, gaining experience in interventional radiology, angiography, and stent placement.
Dr. Mehmet Mahir Atasoy, who has been a faculty member in the Breast Radiology and Interventional Radiology departments at Maltepe University Faculty of Medicine since 2011, received his associate professorship in March 2016.
He has focused his research primarily on new treatment methods and the development of technologically advanced non-surgical treatments for diseases that previously required surgery. His primary areas of expertise in the treatment of varicose veins using modern methods include the treatment of varicose veins, breast masses (fibroadenomas), thyroid nodules, and certain cancers, particularly liver cancer.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Mahir Atasoy, who has successfully applied non-surgical varicose vein treatment using modern methods to over 2,000 patients since 2011, is one of the leading academics in this field. He published his first study demonstrating that laser treatment can be used on veins larger than 15 mm in diameter in JVIR, one of the world's leading Interventional Radiology journals. He has also demonstrated that large, prominent varicose veins, even those protruding from the skin, can be treated non-surgically using the FAFS technique he developed. He published his FAFS technique in Clinical Radiology, one of Europe's leading radiology journals.
He also assists patients in the breast radiology department with advanced imaging techniques in the early diagnosis of breast cancer, breast biopsies, and the non-surgical treatment of benign breast masses. Dr. Atasoy, who was part of the team that presented the first series of HIFU treatment for breast masses in Turkey, serves as a radiologist in a multidisciplinary team implementing numerous new diagnostic and treatment methods for breast cancer.
In the Department of Interventional Oncology at Maltepe University, he treats oncology patients using the most advanced methods of modern medicine, including Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE), RF Ablation, and Microwave Ablation.
Having published over 25 scientific articles in internationally peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Atasoy has also been invited to speak at numerous international meetings. In addition to his scientific awards, he also has a patented vacuum biopsy needle.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Mahir ATASOY believes that diseases can be largely prevented through a healthy state of mind, a healthy diet, and a healthy lifestyle. He hasn't considered solely making progress in treatment sufficient. To further his patients, he has pursued training in preventive medicine, functional medicine, and integrative medicine alongside his academic career in modern medicine.
In addition to numerous trainings in integrative medicine, he has also received training in phytotherapy, ozone, and hypnosis approved by the Ministry of Health since 2017. He received his Functional Medicine Specialist certificate after two years of training from the Institute for Functional Medicine in the United States.
As a social responsibility project, he has given Preventive Medicine Seminars at numerous organizations since 2010. In addition to his public seminars, he also educates medical students and colleagues on the effects of healthy nutrition and lifestyle on diseases. Dr. Atas believes that a healthy state of mind, a healthy diet, and a healthy lifestyle are crucial for disease prevention and recovery.
