HIFU is one of the most sophisticated methods used in the treatment of fibroadenomas, a benign breast mass. Focused ultrasound treatment, like other non-surgical fibroadenoma treatments, is performed using only local anesthesia. However, this technique requires no needles other than local anesthesia.
Using only ultrasound waves, a probe inserted from outside the skin heats the lesion, shrinking it. Its disadvantage compared to other methods is that it is somewhat expensive. It takes approximately six months for the lesion to halve in size.
Another disadvantage is that our patient continues to feel the lump in its location during this period. Follow-up breast ultrasounds are recommended for both breasts, including the lump's location and other breast pathologies (breast cancer, breast cysts, fibrocystic breast disease) evaluated at three-month intervals for the first year.
