A fine-needle aspiration biopsy is a relatively simple and painless procedure that takes approximately 15 minutes. It requires no preparation. The biopsy material is sent to the pathology laboratory, and the pathology results are available within 4-5 days.
FNA carries no risks in experienced hands. Complications are unlikely. It is a procedure suitable for all types of solid tissue, including the thyroid, breast, lung, liver, and others.
