Fibroadenomas, which are traditionally indicated for treatment, are treated surgically. However, operations performed for recurrent fibroadenomas are distressing for many young women. In addition to the risks of repeat surgery and anesthesia, the scars left on the breast skin from the surgery are another source of stress for patients.
Advancing technology has produced multifunctional needles. Vacuum-assisted biopsy needles are now used instead of the standard needles used in pre-operative biopsies, allowing complete removal of fibroadenomas.
