Radioembolization Treatment

This is a newer alternative to chemoembolization, particularly for liver tumors and patients with specific conditions. As with chemoembolization, only the blood vessel feeding the tumor is accessed, but instead of chemotherapy drugs, radiation-emitting particles are administered. This allows for the targeted radiation therapy.

While technically not very different from chemoembolization, it should be noted that interventional oncologists require more experience. It is a relatively expensive treatment and only benefits a very limited group of patients. Therefore, it is not as well-known as chemoembolization (TACE, TransArterial ChemoEmbolization).
