Things to Consider After Varicose Vein Treatment

THINGS TO CONSIDER AFTER ENDOVENOUS LASER ABLATION (EVLA) TREATMENT
First of all, let's point out that there are no precautions you need after the treatment of varicose veins that have not progressed too far, that is, capillary varicose veins or varicose veins that form small bulges. For these patients, wearing compression stockings for a few days will be sufficient.

However, the following points apply to patients who have undergone both endovenous laser ablation and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy for the treatment of severely advanced varicose veins.

In the first 10 days after the procedure:

1. You may experience mild pain the first night and the following day after the procedure. Obtain and begin using the pain medication we prescribed immediately after the procedure. We recommend using it especially for the first 3 days.

2. It is very important to wear medium-compression compression stockings (properly) for the first 10 days (they should be worn continuously, except when sleeping and showering, and should be put on in bed in the morning, before touching the floor).

3. You can shower before going to bed the day after treatment, not on the day of treatment. Be careful not to expose the treatment area to excessively hot water when showering.

4. It is very important to walk 30-40 minutes daily (in sneakers or comfortable shoes).

5. The treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or heat.

6. When the procedure is successful, the occluded vein will harden and will be absorbed by the body and disappear within a month. It is normal to feel some stiffness and tension in the occluded vein during this time and this is temporary.

7. Brown discoloration or slightly painful lumpy hardness is normal during the healing process. Do not worry; these are all temporary.

8. Avoid prolonged standing and excessive fatigue in the first few days. If you're not careful, you may experience swelling in your foot or leg. If swelling occurs, elevate your feet and increase your rest periods. Be sure to put on your socks in the morning without touching the ground and never take them off. Don't skip your walks, and take your prescribed painkiller. Despite all this, swelling may persist for a while; don't worry. However, if the swelling persists for more than three days and is accompanied by severe pain and redness, despite following all these precautions, be sure to contact us.

Adhering to these precautions for the first 10 days (especially avoiding prolonged standing, walking, and wearing compression stockings) is crucial to preventing post-procedural complications.

Furthermore, check-ups at 1 and 6 months after the procedure should not be neglected.

Varicose veins are inherently prone to recurrence. To prevent recurrence after treatment, you should not skip your annual check-ups. Even small varicose veins can be easily treated very early in the process.
