Varicose veins are divided into six stages. Stage 6, the most advanced of these, involves varicose veins and varicose vein sores. It usually occurs in people who are careless about their condition. It significantly impacts quality of life, even more so than cancer.
Treating such advanced cases can be challenging. While we call our patients for one or two checkups and final touch-ups at other stages of varicose veins, we regularly check patients with leg sores every 15 days. It takes several months for the wound to heal. It can sometimes take up to a year for complete healing. The most important thing to remember is that if there is itching in the area where your varicose veins are located, it is likely a sore. Always consult an interventional radiologist experienced in varicose vein treatment before a sore appears.
One final reminder: the best method for varicose veins of all stages is non-surgical treatment using modern methods. Sore varicose veins often have leaks in perforating vessels. These vessels can be found with ultrasound guidance and easily closed with laser ablation.
