Wire Marking in Breast Ultrasonography

1 min read

Some lesions detected on ultrasound in the breast may need to be removed in their entirety. In these cases, the primary option for lesions smaller than 2 centimeters is to remove the lesion non-surgically using a special basket device guided by ultrasound. The device we use in this procedure, "Intact Bles," allows us to remove the tissue en bloc through a small needle puncture under ultrasound guidance.

Some lesions may require removal in a larger portion. In these cases, the area to be removed is marked with a wire under ultrasound guidance. Sometimes, to avoid errors, two wires may be placed in deep-seated lesions. Ultrasound-guided wire placement is a painless procedure. Care is taken to ensure the wires remain stationary after the procedure. If possible, the patient is taken directly to the operating room, and the area marked with the wire is surgically removed.
